State Conventions Broadcasts Ramp Up CT-N’s Elections Coverage

Coverage of State Conventions Ramp Up CT-N’s Elections Coverage

Hartford, CT – Connecticut’s major parties begin their process of selecting their statewide candidates for campaign 2010 on Friday evening, and the Connecticut Network is ready to provide a start-to-finish look at both the Democratic and Republican conventions all weekend long.

CT-N has covered these events where state constitutional officer and other candidates are nominated by their respective parties since 2002, but this year announced plans to expand on its traditional gavel-to-gavel coverage by adding real-time updates from the convention floor during the onstage downtimes.  “This is the densest field of candidates and arguably the most complex election season we’ve ever covered,” according to William Bevacqua, network Director of Communications & Marketing.  “That presents a unique opportunity for CT-N to inform not just on the races and candidates, but on how the nominations procedures themselves work at our conventions.  The entire staff is looking forward to the challenge and we think viewers will find the process fascinating.”

Coverage begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday with a telecast of Connecticut Public Radio’s conventions preview.  Live coverage of the Republican Convention will begin on TV immediately after, followed by coverage of the Democratic Convention.  Live TV coverage will begin on Saturday with the Democratic Convention, followed by coverage of the Republican Convention.  Both conventions will simulcast live on CT-N.com.

The network will re-air both conventions in their entirety on TV throughout the weekend; they will also be available OnDemand at CT-N.com.  Consult CT-N’s Daily Schedule online for more information on airtimes.

CT-N is available full-time on U-Verse channel 83 and on expanded basic cable statewide.  Visit ct-n.com to find the channel location for the network in your community or to watch online.  All Connecticut Network programming is closed captioned for the hearing impaired.

Winner of the national Sunshine Award from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Open Government Award from the Connecticut Foundation for Open Government, Connecticut Network is the state’s source for complete and balanced television and webcast coverage of state government and public affairs.  For more information, become a fan of CT-N on Facebook, follow the network at www.twitter.com/CTNetworkTV or visit CT-N’s website at www.ct-n.com.
